YOUR GLORY

John 11:4-6

You said the sickness of Lazarus would not end in death – for the sake of your glory. But what of the sicknesses that do end in death? Can you not be glorified through those as well? Is it only through the healing of the sick and raising of the dead that you are glorified?

We need to look beneath the surface of the acts of healing and raising to see why you are glorified through them. Beneath the surface, we find that such miracles point to your sovereignty, your authority, your power, and your eternal purpose – all of which remain the same whether or not you heal or raise. Nothing can diminish any of these things.

You are a glorified in the mere fact that it is in your hands to heal the sick or raise the dead. If, in all history, you had chosen only to raise a flower back from the dust of the ground, you would be glorified. But that you have bestowed your powers with compassion unto men only magnifies your glory. And whether or not you choose to heal us or raise us in the immediate physical realm, it is in your hands to heal and raise us eternally. This is what you have promised to your children. And in this you are glorified all the more.
