Through our scars we bleed blood-red compassion that brings others to know the healing that is found in Christ.

Yes, by his wounds we are healed. But have we forgotten that we also are called to be like Christ? If he suffered, how are we to presume that we will live a life free of suffering? And if we are healed through his suffering, shall we not bring healing to others through our own suffering?

Spring came as a welcome gift this year. Though it’s always been a miraculous season, something was different when it finally broke through this time around. Maybe the harsh winter had stamped out any assurance that warmth would prevail and new life spring forth as promised—the relentless snow and lingering cold freezing out all hope. Or maybe it was something more.
While it’s unreasonable to question if spring will come, there is always the matter of when…and how long we’ll have to endure before it does come. When the cultural climate is stuck on winter, it seems all the more miraculous that spring manages to show up in the midst. How—in the soil of persistent war, conflict, violence, and suffering, do the trees still grow and the flowers still bloom?
The season of life may be overshadowed by the death that is winter, but it is never overcome. In fact, death is what prepares the soil for life. If there were no winter, spring would never come in its fullness of glory. And God has given a promise that if we press on to know him in the midst of our suffering, he will come to us like the spring rains that water the earth.
All that surrounds may steal our hope and drain our life. The constant bad news breeds depression, doubt, and sheer exhaustion. But the good news is…the flowers still bloom. Spring still comes. It can’t be hindered. New life will always prevail over death. It’s the law of spring.
“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; and he will come to us like the rain—the spring rain that waters the earth.” (Hosea 6:3)

True love sees the needs of those in chains. And true love hears their cries. But it doesn’t stop there. True love is compassionate. And true love rescues.

Hatred will only perpetuate hatred. As a seed begets its corresponding fruit, so hatred results in destruction and death. The seeds of love bring forth healing and life.

i see you from afar
know deeply who you are
my eyes can see much more
than human eyes can see
your heart speaks loud and clear
though you try to hide your tears
i can hear your silent cry
though you do not hear me
you’re weary from the act
burdened by the mask
and yet you strive to keep
the image you portray
you surround yourself with those
who will never truly know
how hard you fight to breathe
and to live another day
and yet
i see…
i know…
i ask
what are you wearing
when the final act
comes to an end?
what are you wearing
when the curtain falls
and the lights go dim?
what are you wearing
when you close the door,
at last alone?
what are you wearing
when the day is done
and you’re finally home?
do you shed the garments that made you shine?
or do you fake your smile one last time?
do you take a breath and hope it’s done,
dread the rising of the sun?
or does the costume wait for you
for wearing when the night is through
to play your starring role once more
still trapped behind your prison doors
what are you wearing?
you refuse to confide
i know who you are
though you try to hide
what are you wearing?
your audience waits
to find what’s behind
the veil on your face
what are you wearing?
when will you let go
of the garment that keeps you
from being…known
